Ambalangoda Masks Plate
The mask carvers of Ambalangoda have been at it for centuries, cutting raksha and kolam faces from kaduru wood for ritual dance and village theatre. We’ve gathered a few of the best-known — the Naga Raksha with its cobra crown, the bird-beaked Gurulu, the Sanni at the centre — and arranged them the way they hang on a workshop wall.
Bold, a bit mischievous, and the one in the collection that children reach for first.
