Kandyan Liyawela Plate
The liyawela — the flowing vine scroll that climbs temple doorways, brass trays and ivory combs across the Kandyan kingdom — is the closest thing Sri Lanka has to a national pattern. This plate sets it around a central lotus medallion, with the hansa and makara worked into the vine the way the old craftsmen did it.
Red lacquer ground, ivory and black linework, a touch of saffron. It works as the plate you eat from and the plate you hang.
